Weigh-In Week #1: Goin’ Down

Even though I felt I had a semi-bad weekend on the food and exercise front, I still was able to lose weight.  I was able to lose 3.1 lbs. over the week, so obviously I’m very happy about that!  I attribute this to increased exercise, both at lunchtime and in the evening.  I only walk for around 10-15 minutes at lunch; the evening walks usually last 30-40 minutes.  I’m not really moving at a fast pace right now…I’m just happy to be more active.  Plus, having walking buddies has been a tremendous help.  Together, we’ve walked over 5 miles!

The week ahead is a little intimidating.  I’m not so worried about the work week.  It’s the weekend, of course, due to multiple parties, which means lots of snacks, finger foods, entrées, and desserts.  Tempting for a fat guy like me, to say the least.  I’m going to have to keep my hunger in check, stay busy, track what I eat and drink, and be sure that I continue to exercise.

For now, I’m happy with the weight loss for the week.  I’ll worry about the weekend when I get there.

NOTE:  I attended an Overeaters Anonymous meeting this weekend.  Overall, it was a very positive experience.  But in the interest of anonymity, I’m not going to provide any details on this blog.  If you would like to hear about my first OA meeting, please send me an e-mail.

Hundred Pushup Challenge

Initial Test:  1 normal push up, 9 “knee” push ups.  Yikes.  Me gots no upper body strength!

Seriously?

Yesterday was my first weigh-in day since restarting the blog and my weight-loss journey.  I woke up super motivated, weighed in under 300 lbs., and walked for 25 minutes in the morning.  Great start to a super healthy day, right?

Nope.  I really let myself go after that walk.  I got breakfast out at a local diner:  cheese omelette and 2 slices of wheat toast with butter slathered on it.  Lunch was macaroni and cheese with hot dogs…makes your mouth water, doesn’t it?  At the British Beer Company, dinner was a blowout:  buffalo chicken dip with pita chips, steak tips with panko-crusted green beans (which is a lovely way to make a vegetable totally unhealthy) and creamy mashed potatoes, and three 20-oz. Smithwick’s.  Plus, I didn’t drink nearly enough water.

What a waste of a first day.  I felt so tired and icky at the end of the day.  Of course, I was disappointed with myself, too.  This was not the way I wanted to start.  I promised myself that I would not make the same mistakes two days in a row.  So today was a much better day, thanks to a busy work day and the guarantee I made to myself that I would not have a repeat of Sunday.

Weekends:  you suck.

Links of the Day

  • One Woman’s Struggle To Shed Weight, And ShameA great article and audio story about a woman’s struggles with her weight.  It’s interesting to hear her story, but I feel sad that she feels so hopeless sometimes.  In the audio version, you can really hear the disappointment in her voice.  I totally sympathize with her…hope she can lose the weight and find happiness again.
  • NoTakeOut:  a website dedicated to helping working people get dinner on the table five nights a week.  Its mission is to provide a complete Menu, an express line friendly Shopping List, and a Game Plan to buy and prepare an entire meal.  When you subscribe to the site, you will receive your Menu and Shopping List every weekday morning, Monday through Friday, via email or RSS.  Then, just take your Shopping List to the grocery store, breeze through the express line and when you get home, follow the easy step-by-step instructions in the Game Plan.  Great idea!  I will probably try it out in the next couple weeks.
